Hallstatt

Content.

Hallstatt in Austria is a perfect stopover on your journey to places further afield. We drove to Hallstatt on our way back from a holiday to Slovenia and that was a nice combination. Below are the sights of Hallstatt that we can recommend to you.

The centre

Hallstatt is a small town, located on the Hallstätter lake and is mainly known for its idyllic appearance. And we can’t deny that, the city is beautifully situated on the lake and the architecture of the houses and church complete the picture. An afternoon is enough for a visit to the city. It is small, you walk in 30 minutes from one side at the parking places to the other side of the village where there is a lookout point. There are several places to eat and drink in the center, the closer to the water, the more expensive. A walk through the city is great fun, the small streets feel cozy and you imagine yourself completely in Austrian atmosphere. TIP: At the end of the afternoon, with the twilight of the sunset, make your way to the lookout point and watch the city and its surroundings change color.

Area around Hallstatt

Outside the city are a few activities you can do. More in the mountains you will find the Hallstatt Skywalk Welterbeblick, 360 meters above sea level. You go up with a cable car that is included in the price. There are currently a number of measures in place regarding the pandemic. One is that you can only buy tickets at the counter and not online. Tickets cost €16.00 per person. The Skywalk is open from 9am – 6pm, during the summer season, otherwise the Skywalk closes at 4pm or 4.30pm. Also nearby are the Hallstatt Salt Mines or visit the Waldbachstrub Waterfall.

From & to the center

The easiest way to get to Hallstatt is by car. Just outside and in the center you will find a few good parking spaces. If you don’t want to sleep in the center, Obertraun is 5 kilometers away and is a good alternative. Quiet and wonderfully in the mountains with many hiking opportunities.
